Offshore in Crisis - Tuesday 9th June 2009, Hotel De France, Jersey

A one day conference and facilitated plenary sessions at the Hotel de France in Jersey on Tuesday 9 June 2009.

Pressure on offshore centres is not new but do the clouds that are now gathering foretell a more devastating storm? Offshore centres face formidable challenges; the Stop Tax Haven Abuse Bill, fallout from the credit crunch, new tactics of onshore revenue authorities, extraditions, asset recovery actions, an unlevel playing field, competition from Asian centres and a hardening EU Tax Savings Directive. Is there a future for Jersey, Guernsey and The Isle of Man? Are we to be buffeted by developments onshore, or can we proactively define our own agenda for success?

Innovative Format

This ’thought leadership’ event is designed to inform debate and help shape key policy decisions in the Channel Islands. A series of talks on relevant subjects from leading players will be followed by two facilitated plenary sessions on ’Threats’ and ’Opportunities’. The results of the plenary sessions will be passed to Jersey Finance, the Department for Economic Development and the Chief Minister’s Department.
